Sex and Relationship Education (SRE)

PSHEe

Teaching SRE in schools where there are a variety of cultural and religious groups can be both challenging and exciting. For an effective SRE programme to be established schools should work in partnership with all levels of the school community including pupils, teachers, school health workers, governors and parents.

Specialist Help

Navkiran Nahal is the Asian SRE specialist within the Healthy Schools SRE team.
Navkiran's role is to support schools in creating and delivering an SRE package that is inclusive across cultures and religions.

How Navkiran can help:

  • Discuss a school's concerns in the areas of religion and culture and SRE policy and programme development.
  • Suggest ways of talking about the issues of religion in a sensitive and inclusive manner.
  • Provide SRE information in a variety of languages.
  • Provide resources to support your school's SRE delivery.
  • Provide staff training around religion, faiths and culture and their implications on SRE.
  • Support parent consultation events - research has shown that involving parents from the initial planning stage to the delivery of SRE can minimise the misunderstanding and unease that exists around the subject.

Please contact Navkiran if you'd like any help.
