Local Healthy Schools Programme
Local Healthy School Status

About

Schools who have previously gained National Healthy Schools Status will maintain their status subject to a biannual Whole School Review.

The remaining schools will be able to gain Local Healthy Schools Status by completing a Whole School Review and achieving meaningful outcomes in two priority areas following the Health and Wellbeing Improvement Model.

Whole School Review
This process enables schools to review their current provision in relation to the Health and Wellbeing of their children and young people. This follows the nine areas of a whole school approach to improvement.
  1. Leadership, management and managing change
  2. Policy development
  3. Learning and teaching, curriculum planning and resourcing
  4. School culture and environment
  5. Giving children and young people a voice
  6. Provision of support services for children and young people
  7. Staff continuing professional development (CPD) needs, health and wellbeing
  8. Partnerships with parents/carers and local communities
  9. Assessing, recording and reporting the achievement of children and young people.

Schools will consider the following aspects of Health and Wellbeing.

Schools will be required to set up a Health and Wellbeing Improvement Group to monitor lead and manage the developments in school. Schools will be invited to complete a Whole School Review every two years.
